OWNSTONE - About Us

OWNSTONE is an Ukrainian rock band that performs music in the style of Stoner / Groove Metal.

Despite of a small musical work, the band was founded quite a long time ago, in 2015. At that time, guitarist and singer Alex Frolov and drummer Dmytro Korobchenko had just finished their joint participation in the student band Play For Fun and decided to start their own musical project, which would consist of only two members. The primary goal of creating OWNSTONE was the desire to play a style of music that was close to both musicians. However, until 2019, Alex and Dmytro played only instrumental compositions, without creating full-fledged songs from them.

In the summer of 2019, it was decided to make the compositions into full-fledged musical works. The author Iryna Korobchenko was involved in writing the text of the songs. The main theme of each song is a struggle that almost every person faces. The song «Fight Them All» shows the social struggle against an external enemy. This composition is more relevant than ever for the Ukrainian people during the war. «Don’t Break Me Down» and «Scold Yourself» are musical compositions that represent the personal struggle of someone who has been in an abusive relationship. And the song «I Hate Mondays» deals with the topic of social pressure on traumatized people. It is normal for a person to receive reproaches and accusations instead of help, that can break his psyche and lead to negative consequences. This is happened to Brenda Ann Spencer, whose story became the basis for the song. All these musical works are the main component of OWNSTONE’s first EP.

Alex and Dmytro are inspired by such bands as Royal Blood, Pantera, Down, White Stripes, Mammoth WVH, Stoned Jesus, Black Label Society, Queens of the Stone Age, Godsmack, Deftones and Black Stone Cherry.

Currently, the group has two main goals of its development. It’s increasing the number of musical compositions and actively promoting their music among listeners. OWNSTONE have their own style, sound and recognition. The band exists to continue the traditions of true metal, to bring together a new generation of listeners, and to show pressing social issues through their creativity.
